Once a month the lining of the uterus thickens ready to accept a fertilised egg or ovum, however most months the egg won’t be fertilised and attach to the wall of the uterus, so the body then expels the lining in the form of blood. This comes out of the woman’s body via the vagina in the form of a monthly period.
